Sky Broadband and Guild Esports, co-owned by David Beckham, have announced a groundbreaking initiative to promote diversity and inclusion in the UK esports scene.
With women comprising only 5% of esports professionals despite representing 47% of gamers, this initiative aims to bridge the gender gap by providing a platform for talented female gamers to showcase their skills.
The series of tournaments, kicking off in April, will include SIM racing and football esports competitions, culminating in the Women’s Esports Finals. A total prize pool of £50,000 will be split among the tournaments, with winners also receiving professional contracts and 18 months of free Sky Broadband.
The initiative underscores a commitment to supporting female esports professionals with bootcamp training, access to top-class facilities, and expert guidance. By encouraging women to participate and succeed in esports, the initiative aims to create a more inclusive and equal gaming industry.
Amber Pine, MD, Sky Connectivity said: “At Sky Broadband we’re committed to powering the gaming community, and we want to help ensure it’s an equal playing field for all. We’re creating new, safe and equal opportunities for woman gamers, working with Guild Esports for the past two years to achieve this ambition. This first-of-its-kind initiative opens up new avenues to help women go pro, with contracts and cash prizes up for grabs.”
Entrants, aged 18 or over and UK residents, can sign up through the official Sky Broadband website.
