On the 20th November, famous rapper Snoop Dogg announced on Twitter that he was “giving up smoke”. For a man that’s almost as famous for his passion for Marijuana as he is for his rapping, this sent Twitter into a frenzy.
In his tweet, Snoop Dogg announced that the decision came after much consideration and conversation with his family and requested that people give him privacy at this time.
Media outlets across the globe from the BBC to CNN reported on the rapper’s drastic lifestyle change, with his name trending on Twitter for the past two days.
Fast forward to the 21st November, the rapper posted a follow up tweet in the form of a video in which it was expected that he was going to delve deeper into his decision to give up smoke.
However, the video was actually an advert for fire pit brand, Solo Stove, in which Snoop Dogg has become a partner with. In the video, the rapper referenced his decision to give up smoke, however, he was in fact referencing his decision to give up on the smoke caused by standard fire pits, as apposed to marijuana.
“I have an announcement: I’m giving up smoke,” he says in the video. “I know what you thinking: ‘Snoop, smoke is kinda your whole thing.’ But I’m done with it. Done with the coughing and my clothes smelling all sticky-icky. I’m going smokeless.”
“Solo Stove has since announced that Snoop Dogg will be their official ‘smokesman,’ in support of the company’s quest to eliminate smoke from backyards everywhere,” according to a press release from the company sent to CNN.
“They changed the game and now I’m excited to spread the love and stay warm with my friends and family,” Snoop is quoted as saying in a press release for the product.

Solo Stove’s decision to appoint Snoop Dogg as it’s official ‘smokesman’ ambassador highlights the impact that partnering with the right celebrity can have on a campaign.
