To mark Mental Health Awareness Week, BBC Children In Need have removed Pudsey’s bandana. It’s the start of their Behind The Bandana campaign, which aims to show that not all of the challenges young people face are visible.
This follows research that reveals how children feel they need to put on a metaphorical bandana to hide their emotions. The research also shows that more than a quarter of young people surveyed haven’t spoken to anyone about their mental health in six months.
Children In Need’s Simon Antrobus said: “By recognising and acknowledging that some feelings of worry and anxiety can be hidden means early conversations, sensitively delivered with kindness and empathy, can make a real difference to a child’s wellbeing and can help prevent mental health problems from becoming embedded.”
