Dove’s latest initiative encourages afro hair styles in gaming code

Enhancing representation in virtual environments goes beyond just skin tone. A large aspect of black culture is hair, Code My Crown is a great new initiative by Dove to ensure people within the black community feel empowered and represented whilst gaming.
Research from the Unilever-owned firm showed that 85% of black gamers think that afro hair isn’t well-represented in video games. Aiming to promote diversity in video games, Dove responded to this research by putting up a guide for developers that teaches them how to code natural hair.
To deliver this Dove teamed up with The Open Source, a community of artists creating extraordinary visions of Blackness in digital media.
