A literal ‘Dirty Protest’: A petition that is signed with real sewage

Untreated sewage pollution in oceans has long been ignored by politicians…but not anymore.
For decades, politicians have allowed billions of litres of untreated sewage to be dumped into the ocean harming marine life and humans.
Dirtyprotest.org, aims to address this issue by printing names with a sewage-based ink and delivering the petitions to the responsible politicians globally.
Sewage pollution harms marine ecosystems as it causes low oxygen levels that can suffocate and can potentially kill fish and aquatic plants.
Sewage pollution also poses health risks to humans as it can contain bacteria, viruses and parasites that can enter the body though body openings or wounds, resulting into rashes, infections and worse.
The Dirty Protest, an online petition at Dirtyprotest.org, aims to address this issue by printing names with a sewage-based ink and delivering the petitions to the responsible politicians globally.
Pernille Weiss, Chairwoman of the European Parliament’s Water Group, was the first to sign the petition, stating: “I signed my name in shit to stop untreated sewage from being pumped into our ocean and I need all of you to sign, so we can show every politician that this problem is too big and too important to be ignored.”
By signing, individuals join an international effort to protect the oceans.
