Morrisons has teamed up with baking firm Warburtons to support families during the Easter holidays by offering free crumpets. Whilst schools are off, the public can ‘Ask for Ellen’ at any one of the 397 Morrisons Cafes across the UK to receive a portion of two standard crumpets with butter and jam, entirely for free.

This is the second year that Warburtons and Morrisons are launching the ‘Ask for Ellen’ campaign, having given out 200,000 crumpets last summer and 300,000 over the October holidays. The brands expect 100,000 portions of delicious, buttery crumpets to be handed out over Easter.
The campaign is named after Warburtons’ founder Ellen Warburton, following research that revealed that children ask their parents for a snack three times a day during the school holidays on average. 82% of parents spend more money on snacks to prevent holiday hunger, and 64% of parents are worried about the financial strain that comes with having their children home for the holidays.
Further to this, 44% of those surveyed said that their biggest challenge is keeping their children entertained during the holidays, so Warburtons and Morrisons are offering colouring and activity sheets along with the crumpets. Children will also be able to enter a competition to win Morrisons shopping vouchers and a Warburtons hamper.
Jonathan Warburton, chairman of Warburtons, said: ‘As families continue to feel the financial pinch as we head into the Easter break, we’re looking forward to providing a little support for those who might need it.’
