Heineken gives homeware a go in new sustainability project

Heineken South Africa have dabbled in homeware and wearables with new Waste to Wear collection as part of their latest initiative, Fields Green with Grass, Not Glass.

The initiative focuses on sustainability and community development – involving the introduction of a new returnable bottle, as well as the ‘Green Zones Project’ which converts broken glass ‘hot spots’ into green zones and, most recently, the ‘Waste to Wear’ project.

In the first phase, five green zones have been established in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Pretoria, and Durban, spanning over 5,000 square meters. These zones feature a combination of indigenous plants and grasses, food gardens and creative art installations.

To create the collection, made entirely from recycled bottles, Heineken has worked with local designers Matthew Edwards and Deji Dada on the range – from rings and medallions to dinner sets and pendant lights inspired by hops.
